My camping friends and I always had a great time planning our summer camping trip, until one of us got a little over excited and started putting the finishing touches on our camp food. My little girl loves camping so much, she made up a checklist of all the different things she wanted to bring with her on our camping trip. She wanted to bring some of her favorite toys, but knew that there were no good camping foods to eat while we were out at the campground. It was really getting dark when we pulled out our camping grill to cook up some chicken. We were all excited about the idea of a chicken fry, but my wife wasn’t so sure. Would her kids enjoy it?
Camping Theme Activities For Elementary
I was glad my camping theme ideas for the day kept coming back to chicken fry. My daughter and her friends had been begging me to let them make campfire chicken, so I just decided to give in. I took them shopping for the ingredients they needed and let them try to make their own. They were able to use some of their home cooking knowledge to put together a delicious dinner.
Another camping theme activity that is easy to do with young children is to take them on a field trip to an animal sanctuary or recreation area. This can be especially fun if you take them to an actual animal shelter where they can see real live animals instead of just plastic dolls or stuffed animals. If the kids are old enough, they can even pet some of the animals!
Another camping activity that will keep the kids busy for hours is to go to a carnival or any other amusement park. This is another idea that my wife gave me, because she knew I was looking for something fun to do while my girls were at the beach. (Hey, no one said it would be easy!) We spent a nice day at the amusement park and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Of course, there are always the great outdoors trips that your family might take. This can involve camping, kayaking or hiking for days. Again, you can find many fun activities to do in the outdoors like fishing, boating, swimming or even rock climbing if you are into that sort of thing. If your kids are older, consider taking them to an outdoor film or concert.
Things To Keep In Mind Before Starting Camping
Now, let’s talk about a couple of things that you should know before starting camping or embarking on camping theme activities for elementary school children. First, it is absolutely necessary that you supervise these kids when they are camping, especially if it is their first time or they have never been camping before. You can either bring along a friend or take the kids out by themselves, but bringing along a friend is better because then you know what to expect and can ensure that your child is safe.
Have Some Kind Of Emergency Kit Or Supplies
Second, be sure that you have some kind of emergency kit or supplies with you for any situation where your child gets separated from you. And do not forget the camera, which can prove to be very useful if something should happen to you or one of your other camping buddies. Camping can be a lot of fun, but it is important that you know what you are getting into and follow all of the safety precautions as well as know about basic first aid skills when you are involved in any sort of outdoor activity, be it a sporting event or activities like water skiing or a hike.
These are just a couple of things to know about camping before you begin to plan the next camping trip for the family. There are lots of other fun activities that you can do while camping, like horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. Or maybe you would rather spend your time playing games or watching movies. Whatever you decide to do, make it fun for everyone. Remember, camping is all about having fun. So take that camcorder, get some snacks and make sure that you have plenty of ice on hand because it can be really hot outside when you are ready to watch a movie.
